Joyce Omwoha
Joyce Omwoha holds a PhD in Media Studies from the University of The Witwatersrand. She is an academic and researcher specializing in communications, media studies, and social issues, with a particular focus on the role of media in democracy, health communication, gender studies, and the analysis of social media culture. She is involved in various research projects that explore topics such as digital citizenship, gender in resistance, climate change, and community-centered health interventions. Joyce is dedicated to understanding the intersection of media, technology, and social change, with a specific interest in the impact of these factors on marginalized communities, particularly in Kenya. Joyce is also a communications strategist at Africa Coordinating Centre for the Abandonment of FGM (ACCAF); a network of academics from the medical, legal and gender fields. ACCAF aims to strengthen the capacity for and coordination of research, implementation of evidence-based best practices, and strategies for the abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Africa and beyond within one generation. She is also a former 2016 African Peacebuilding Network (APN) Individual Research fellow.
