Pape Chérif Bertrand Bassène, Akandijack teaches history at Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar, Senegal. He holds a PhD from Laval University (Quebec) and the European University of Bretagne Sud, Lorient, France. His research focuses on the memory of the Transatlantic slave trade and history of decolonial ideas. Former lecturer at the University of The Gambia, Dr. Bassène was also a member of the LASPAD Research Laboratory on societies and Powers Africa/Diaspora, University of Saint-Louis, Sénégal, which received the SSRC’s APN Collaborative Working Group Research Fellowship (2018-2019) to conduct an 18-month study on the conflict in Casamance.
