Umar Ahmed is a lecturer at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria. He received both his BA and MA degrees from the Department of Modern European Languages and Linguistics, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria, and an MPhil in TESL (Applied Linguistics) from the University of Ghana, Legon. He later got his PhD in languages and literatures from the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS), University of Bayreuth, Germany. Dr. Ahmed has also participated in the highly competitive Fulbright Fellowship scheme tenable at Indiana University, Bloomington, United States. He specializes in critical discourse analysis (CDA), and has published scholarly articles on language and gender studies, sociolinguistics, and applied linguistics. More recently, he published his first book titled, Gender in Media Discourse: The Discursive Construction of Gender in Nigerian Newspapers published with LIT Verlag.
